Are you a chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a healthcare worker who practices chiropractic, a form of alternative medicine that was established in the 1890s. Whilst the practice has seen controversy over the years, it is now widely used to treat a variety of neuromuscular disorders. It involves manipulating the spine, with a process known as manual adjustment, and may also include movements of other joints and manipulation of soft tissues. Practitioners believe, to varying extents, in ideas about vertebral subluxation, and that the nervous system can cause a range of bodily complaints and disorders.
Chiropractors usually diagnose complaints, taking x-rays and performing CT scans to assist with their investigations. Sometimes, a patient has already been diagnosed elsewhere and is seeking other remedies for their complaints. Chiropractors use their hands to realign the spine, with the idea that when the body is correctly aligned that that healing can occur without the need of other medical interventions. Practitioners undergo training at a chiropractic school, with qualifications requiring a certain number of interactions with clinic patients.

Some chiropractors offer additional services, including lifestyle counseling, homeopathy, physical therapy, and an array of alternative and conventional procedures and treatments.

Whilst many people seek the services of a chiropractor for back pain, there are diverse conditions that chiropractors treat. Damage to the ligaments, tendons, and muscles of the back, pain in the tailbone (known as coccydynia), a herniated disc, whiplash, and sciatica are amongst conditions that chiropractors may seek to resolve.

Commonly seen in older people, degenerative disc disease, abbreviated to DDD, is another reason that people may seek the services of a chiropractor.

Other complaints that chiropractors work with include cervicogenic headaches, a result of neck pain and often mistaken for a migraine, postural and structural problems caused by having one leg longer than the other, osteoarthritis of the spine, a chronic pain disorder known as myofascial pain, and piriformis syndrome, caused by a small muscle in the buttocks becoming compressed or irritating the sciatic nerve.
